Today we had lunch at the HomeTowm Buffet in Milpitas, CA. HomeTown Buffet is a family-oriented restaurant - it offers a simple buffet menu (with lots of kids-friendly food items) at a reasonable price. Today is Sunday, we arrived at around 11:20am and the restaurant was serving breakfast items, such as waffles, pancakes, eggs, bacon, etc. At about 11:45am, the staff started changing the food items to lunch/dinner entrees which includes fish, chicken, turkey, beef, spaghetti, etc. if you are looking for the ultimate, no-fuss comfort food, HomeTown Buffet is a good place to go.

Yummy Home-cooked Meal
Last night our friends were celebrating their son's 8-year-old birthday. Joe and I were invited to their house for a special home-cooked meal. Since Joe and I don't cook at all, any home-cooked meal (especially the ones that involve lots of time and patience to prepare) is very special to us. My friend actually spent 12 hours preparing for last night's dinner and look at the outcome! My absolute favorites were the honey-glazed BBQ chicken wings, stuffed mushrooms with scallops, shrimps and fish cooked in a really yummy coconut and tomato-based sauce and the "Hainan chicken rice". Not in the pictures were coconut chicken soup and the bean curd sweet soup.
For desserts, we had some cream puffs from the "Lee Sandwiches" store and a variety of sorbet from Costco. I usually do not like sorbet (I like ice cream better), but Joe and I tried the orange-flavored one and it was not sour at all, and the texture was surprisingly creamy. Next time when we go to Costco, we will look for those.

Flames Coffee Shop and Bakery
Last night after my hula class, Joe and I went for dinner and dessert at Flames in San Jose, CA. Flames is located right across the Santana Row. It was after 9:30pm but the place was still quite busy. Flames is an old establishment. Their menu and service were pretty basic; nevertheless, still not a bad place to go for comfort food.
Joe ordered the "Filet of Tilapia" - tilapia sauteed with shrimps, chives, mushrooms and white wine sauce, served with steamed veggies and rice. Joe asked them to skip the shrimps and he replaced rice with hash brown. I ordered the shrimp scampi pasta. It normally comes with penne paste but I always prefer spaghetti so I asked for a substitute too. Both entrees came in pretty large portions and each included a choice of soup or salad. My pasta had a pretty heavy garlic taste, good if you love garlics, and I do.
We then ordered the chocolate cake. We were not too fond of the cake though because it was layered with too much cream. We prefer it to have more layers of cake. Will probaby need to order another kind of dessert next time.
