We attended a friend's surprise 50th birthday party at the Buca di Beppo Italian Restaurant and had a lot of fun! There are actually a couple of Buca di Beppo in the Bay Area. This party was held at the San Francisco location, where parking could be a little bit challenging.
We were told to be at the restaurant by 11:15am so that we could scream "SURPRISE!" at the birthday boy Victor when he arrives. All the guests were extremely on time. And Victor was surprised indeed! Victor's wife, Elaine, did a great job organizing this event.
The lunch menu was already pre-ordered. Buca di Beppo is known for serving food "family style" (i.e. to share). First course was Caesar salad and garlic bread. I always have a weakness for garlic bread. I think I ate at least 4 pieces. Then came a big bowl of spaghetti in tomato sauce, topped with two gigantic meat balls. Next up was an extremely hot plate of baked pasta trio - stuffed cannelloni with cheese, stuffed shells with minced veal, and ravioli. And, to top it off, we also had penne pasta with chicken in white wine cream sauce. Since the party menu is "all you can eat", our table ended up reordering all three pasta dishes. We obviously could not finish the second order, so we boxed up the leftover food to take home.
It's Cake Time! Look at the beaming birthday boy Victor standing next to his birthday cake! Next picture is Elaine and Victor, the fun-loving couple. Last picture is us with the party hosts! It was a really successful surprise party!
